Just as students felt they couldn’t fit any more into their school day, a new program will see high school students learning about money, in an attempt to get students ready for the real world of bills and budgets.
Starting last year, the personal finance courses have been slowly introduced to a number of American high schools across Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri and Utah, with many more schools joining the program in the coming year.
Wisconsin’s governor’s office recently announced $250,000 in financial literacy grants to the state’s school districts.
The news is welcomed by personal finance coalition group JumpStart, who has found that the majority of teenagers and adults don’t know the basics of money management, with three in four workers incorrectly guessing how much money is needed for retirement.
Parents are encouraged to work alongside the program and instil good knowledge of money management in their children by passing on any tips they have.
