Most families could save more money by making small changes here and there. Reader’s Digest recently offered these five simple ways for families to save some extra money:
- Even if you’re already on the cheapest electricity tariff, you may be able to reduce your bill by limiting electricity use during peak hours and carrying out some tasks – for example washing clothes – off-peak instead.
- Always pay off your credit card in full each month to avoid interest charges, which can really mount up over a year.
- Extended warranties are not generally worth the extra money; if your appliance is going to break down, it is more likely to be in the first twelve months when the manufacturer’s general warranty will cover the cost of repair or replacement.
- Buying in bulk saves money long-term. Look at the things you use most often and consider larger packs to reduce the cost per item.
- Switch to online banking. Automated payments mean you’ll avoid late payment charges. You can also see all your transactions and spending patterns at a glance.
