In the world of dating it’s common to think that a nice car, a flashy watch, a pretty purse or a killer dress are the things that’ll attract attention. However, the opposite could actually be true.
According to Jenny Olson, a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, expensive items like a fancy car or designer dress can be perceived as wasteful behaviour and an indicator that a person lacks self-control.
Olsen is the co-author of a paper that suggests saving makes individuals more attractive because self-control is desirable trait in a partner.
In a survey on the attractiveness of potential mates it became clear that savers were ranked slightly higher than those who spend and have flashy possessions.
There seems to be a fear that a spender may eventually run out of cash and this is when the problems will begin.
Money matters reflect a more significant level of personality relating to self-control. The crux of this perception is that if you cannot control spending then will you may not be able to control your other bad habits.
